Overview

Actionary is an exciting and creative game that blends elements of Pictionary, Sculptor, and Charades. Players will draw, sculpt, or act out words for their teams to guess. The game encourages creativity, quick thinking, and teamwork, making it a perfect activity for gatherings and parties.

Setup

  1. Divide the Players: Split the group into four teams. Each team should have an even number of players if possible.
  2. Materials Needed:
    • Play-Doh (one tray per team)
    • Paper (several sheets per team)
    • Pens or pencils (one per team)
    • A six-sided die
    • A list of simple words suitable for drawing, sculpting, and acting
  3. Designate a Leader: Choose one person to act as the game leader. This person will oversee the game, provide the words, and ensure the rules are followed.

Game Play

  1. Initial Setup: The leader stands in the center of the room with the list of words, the die, and the materials.
  2. Choose Volunteers: Each team sends one volunteer to the leader. These volunteers will take turns performing tasks based on the dice roll.
  3. Roll the Dice: The leader has each volunteer roll the die to determine their task:
    • 1 or 2: Charades – The player will act out the word without using any sounds or props.
    • 3 or 4: Pictionary – The player will draw the word on a sheet of paper.
    • 5 or 6: Sculptor – The player will sculpt the word using Play-Doh.
  4. Time Limit: Each turn is timed. The team has 2 minutes to guess the word correctly. The leader can adjust the time limit based on the group’s preference.

Rules

  1. No Speaking: Players performing Charades or Sculptor tasks cannot speak or use written words to give clues.
  2. Drawing and Sculpting: For Pictionary and Sculptor tasks, players can only use the provided materials (paper, pens, Play-Doh).
  3. Guessing: Team members can shout out as many guesses as they want within the time limit.
  4. Scoring: Each correct guess earns the team 1 point. Keep track of the scores on a visible board or sheet.

Winning

The game continues until each team has had an equal number of turns. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Tips

  • Word Selection: Choose words that are simple enough to be drawn, acted, or sculpted within the time limit.
  • Team Cooperation: Encourage team members to communicate effectively and support each other’s ideas.

Game Variations

  • Speed Round: Shorten the time limit to increase the challenge.
  • Themed Rounds: Use specific themes for words, such as movies, animals, or occupations.
