All sit in a circle facing the centre. One person in the middle says for example: “everyone with glasses”. Then everyone with glasses gets up, changes seats and the one in the middle sits down. Those who are sitting can move to the seat on the right to prevent those who are standing from sitting down. The one who can’t find a seat says something again and the game continues. If the one in the middle says “fruit salad” EVERYONE has to change seats.

Overview

Fruit Salad is a lively and interactive game that gets everyone moving and laughing. Ideal for large groups, this game requires quick thinking and agility as players swap seats based on shared characteristics. It’s a fantastic way to break the ice and energize participants.

    • None
  2. Participants:
    • Minimum: 15 players
    • Maximum: No maximum limit
  3. Age Requirement:
    • Suitable for ages 10 and up
  4. Duration:

How to Play

  1. Forming a Circle:
    • Players sit in a circle facing the center, ensuring there is enough space for everyone to move around easily.
  2. Choosing the First Caller:
    • Select one player to stand in the middle of the circle. This player is the first caller.
  3. Caller Makes a Statement:
    • The caller says a characteristic that some players might share, for example, “Everyone with glasses.”
  4. Players Change Seats:
    • All players who share that characteristic must stand up and quickly find a new seat. Players can move to any available seat but not to the one directly next to them.
  5. Filling the Empty Seat:
    • The caller also tries to find a seat. One player will inevitably be left without a seat and becomes the new caller.
  6. Blocking Moves:
    • Players still seated can slide to the seat on their right to block those standing from sitting down, adding an extra layer of challenge.
  7. “Fruit Salad” Command:
    • If the caller shouts “Fruit Salad,” everyone must stand up and find a new seat. This command creates a chaotic and fun scramble as everyone moves at once.
  8. Continuing the Game:
    • The game continues with the new caller making a statement, and the process repeats.

Winning the Game

  • Goal:
    • There is no winner in Fruit Salad; the objective is to have fun and stay active.
  • Game End:
    • The game ends after the designated time (30 minutes) or when players decide to stop.

Game Strategy

  • For the Caller:
    • Think of characteristics that apply to a good number of players to create movement.
    • Use “Fruit Salad” strategically to mix things up and keep the game dynamic.
  • For the Players:
    • Be quick and observant to find an open seat.
    • Anticipate possible moves and be ready to slide to the right to block standing players.
