This is a traditional Indian street game, consists of two main components: the “gilli” and the “danda.” The gilli is a small wooden stick or spindle, while the danda is a larger stick or bat. The game involves one player from the hitting team placing the gilli on the ground, and then striking it with the danda, aiming to hit it as far as possible. While the gilli is in the air, players from the opposing team try to catch it or retrieve it before it hits the ground. Points are scored based on the distance the gilli travels before being caught or retrieved. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Overview

This is a traditional Indian street game that involves two main components: the “gilli” (a small wooden stick or spindle) and the “danda” (a larger stick or bat). The objective is to strike the gilli with the danda and score points based on the distance the gilli travels before being caught or retrieved by the opposing team.

Players

2 players to no maximum limit

Minimum Age

10 years old

Game Setup

  1. Playing Area: Find an open outdoor space suitable for playing, with a flat surface.
  2. Equipment: You will need one a small wooden stick or spindle and one a larger stick or bat.
  3. Teams: Divide the players into two teams. One team will be the hitting team, and the other team will be the fielding team.

Game Rules

  1. Starting the Game: The hitting team starts by placing the gilli on the ground. The first player uses the danda to hit the gilli.
  2. Hitting the Gilli: The player strikes one end of the gilli with the danda to make it flip into the air. While the gilli is airborne, the player hits it again with the danda to send it as far as possible.
  3. Fielding: The fielding team attempts to catch the gilli while it is in the air. If they catch it, the hitter is out. If they miss, they try to retrieve it as quickly as possible.
  4. Scoring Points: Points are scored based on the distance the gilli travels before being caught or retrieved. This distance can be measured in units like steps or meters.
  5. Switching Teams: After a predetermined number of hits or outs, the teams switch roles.
  6. Winning the Game: The game continues until an agreed-upon number of rounds or points is reached. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Additional Rules
