Throwing dodgeballs at each other. Variations: Players are back in when the player who hit them is out
Overview
King’s Court Dodgeball is a thrilling and dynamic variation of the classic dodgeball game where players can re-enter the game when the player who hit them is out. This adds an extra layer of strategy and excitement, making it perfect for players aged 6 and up.
Objective
The aim is to eliminate all players on the opposing team by hitting them with a dodgeball while avoiding being hit yourself. The twist is that eliminated players can re-enter the game if the player who hit them gets out.
Game Setup
- Players: 4 to unlimited.
- Age: Suitable for players aged 6 and up.
- Playing Area: A large open space such as a gym, playground, or outdoor field.
- Equipment:
- Dodgeballs (foam balls are recommended for safety)
- Cones or markers to outline the court boundaries
- A whistle to start and stop the game
Court Setup
- Divide the Court: Split the playing area into two equal halves using cones or markers.
- Center Line: Mark a center line that divides the two halves.
- Safe Zones: Optional safe zones can be marked at the ends of each half where players can retreat momentarily without being hit.
How to Play
- Divide into Teams: Split players into two equal teams.
- Start the Game: Place an equal number of dodgeballs along the center line. Teams start at their respective end lines.
- Whistle Start: On the whistle, players rush to the center line to grab a dodgeball.
- Gameplay:
- Players aim to hit opponents with the dodgeballs while avoiding being hit.
- If a player is hit by a dodgeball (below the shoulders), they are out and must leave the court.
- If a player catches a thrown dodgeball before it touches the ground, the thrower is out.
- Re-Entry Rule: When a player is hit and out, they wait on the sidelines. If the player who hit them gets out later in the game, the sidelined player can re-enter the game.
- Boundaries: Players must stay within the court boundaries. Stepping out results in being out.
Rules
- No Headshots: Hits to the head do not count. The thrower is considered out if a headshot occurs.
- Fair Play: No holding onto dodgeballs for more than 10 seconds.
- Teamwork: Encourage passing and team strategies to outsmart the opponents.
Winning the Game
The game ends when all players on one team are out. The team with players still remaining on the court wins the game.
Variations
- Time-Limited Game: Play for a set amount of time. The team with the most players remaining at the end wins.
- Multiple Lives: Each player has multiple lives. They are out only after losing all lives.
- King’s Court: Designate one player as the “King” on each team. If the King is out, all eliminated players re-enter the game.
Tips for a Fun Game
- Use foam dodgeballs for safety, especially with younger players.
- Ensure the playing area is clear of obstacles and hazards.
- Encourage good sportsmanship and fair play.
