Players take turns trying to limbo under a bar without touching it or falling over.

Objective

The objective of Limbo is for players to pass under a horizontal bar without touching it or falling. The bar is lowered progressively to increase the difficulty, and the player who can pass under the lowest setting wins.

Game Setup

  1. Bar Setup: Place two vertical stands or supports that can hold a horizontal bar. Ensure the bar is adjustable to different heights.
  2. Playing Area: Choose a flat and open area to play, ensuring there’s enough space for players to move freely without obstacles.

Rules

  1. Starting Height: Begin with the bar at a comfortable height for all players, typically around shoulder height for the shortest player.
  2. Turn Order: Players take turns attempting to limbo under the bar. Decide the turn order before starting.
  3. Limbo Attempt: During their turn, a player must lean backward and attempt to pass under the bar without touching it or falling. Their hands cannot touch the ground.
  4. Touch or Fall: If a player touches the bar or falls, they are out of the game.
  5. Lowering the Bar: After each round where all remaining players successfully pass under the bar, lower the bar by a small increment (typically 1-2 inches).
  6. Winning the Game: The game continues until only one player remains who can successfully pass under the lowest bar setting without touching it or falling.

How to Play

  1. Preparation: Gather all players and set up the bar at the starting height.
  2. Turns: Each player takes their turn to limbo under the bar. Encourage safe and controlled movements.
  3. Adjustments: After each complete round of turns, lower the bar incrementally.
  4. Elimination: Players who touch the bar or fall are eliminated from the game.
  5. Final Round: Continue until only one player can successfully pass under the bar at the lowest setting. This player is declared the winner.

Tips for Success

  • Maintain balance by moving slowly and keeping your body relaxed.
  • Use your knees to bend low, keeping your back straight.
  • Watch how other players move and adjust your technique accordingly.

Safety

  • Ensure the playing area is free of obstacles and has a soft surface if possible.
  • Supervise young children to prevent injuries.
  • Adjust the height of the bar to accommodate the players’ abilities.
