Medusa is a game where everyone sit around a table. Everyone will put their heads down and count down from three, then have everyone sit up and look at someone else in the circle. If you make eye contact with someone else, you’re out. If the person you’re looking at is looking at someone else, you’re safe. Repeat until everyone is out.

Game Manual: Medusa

Game Overview

Medusa is a thrilling and quick-paced elimination game that tests players’ reaction times and observational skills. Players sit in a circle, and through a series of rapid head movements and eye contact, the game narrows down to the last person standing.

Game Setup

  1. Players: 10-20 participants.
  2. Age Requirement: 7 years and older.
  3. Setting: Arrange chairs or seating positions in a circle so everyone can see each other.
  4. Duration: Typically 10-20 minutes, depending on the number of players.

How to Play

Preparation

  1. Seating: All players sit in a circle facing inward.
  2. Head Down: Everyone puts their heads down, closing their eyes or looking at the ground.

Game Rounds

  1. Count Down: One player (or an external caller) initiates the round by counting down from three: “Three, two, one, Medusa!”
  2. Heads Up: On “Medusa!”, all players quickly lift their heads and look directly at another player in the circle.
  3. Eye Contact:
    • If you make direct eye contact with another player (both players are looking at each other), both players are out of the game.
    • If the person you are looking at is looking at someone else, you are safe.
  4. Elimination: Players who made eye contact leave the circle.
  5. Repeat: The game continues with the remaining players, repeating the “heads down, count down, heads up” sequence.

Winning the Game

  • The game continues until only one player remains in the circle.
  • The last remaining player is declared the winner of Medusa.

Tips for Players

  • Try to anticipate where others might look and avoid direct eye contact.
  • Keep a quick, sharp eye to observe who others are looking at to stay safe.
  • Enjoy the suspense and excitement of each round!

Additional Rules (Optional)

  • No Talking: Enforce a rule of silence during the game to increase the tension.
  • Speed Variation: Change the speed of the countdown to keep players on their toes.
  • Multiple Rounds: Play multiple rounds and keep track of winners for an overall champion
