- Description
- How to play?
Collect a ton of scrap paper (in most churches, just place a box next to the copier for 3 or 4 days!) Have the group divide in half and strategically place themselves around the room. Give the room a middle border. They aren’t allowed to move and there should be an ammo pile towards the back. Give them 5 minutes to crumble all their ammo, and then cry WAR! After ten minutes of throwing paper, whomever has the most on the their side is the losing team
Objective
The objective of Newspaper War is to have the least amount of crumpled paper on your team’s side of the room after ten minutes of play.
Players
- Minimum Players: 4
- Maximum Players: No limit
Minimum Age
- 8 years and older
Items Needed
- A large amount of scrap paper
- A room with a defined middle border
- Boxes or containers for ammo piles
Game Setup
- Collect Paper: Gather a large amount of scrap paper. Place a collection box next to a copier for a few days to gather enough.
- Divide Teams: Split the group into two equal teams. If there is an odd number of players, one team can have an extra player.
- Define Boundaries: Mark a middle border in the room to separate the two sides.
- Ammo Piles: Place an ammo pile (a box or container filled with scrap paper) towards the back of each team’s area.
- Prepare Ammo: Give each team 5 minutes to crumple their scrap paper into balls. This will be their ammo for the game.
Game Rules
- Start Position: Teams position themselves strategically around their side of the room. Players are not allowed to cross the middle border or move from their spot during the game.
- Crumple Time: During the 5-minute preparation, each team crumples as many pieces of paper as possible.
- Begin War: After the preparation time, the game leader shouts “WAR!” to start the game.
- Throwing: Players throw their crumpled paper across the middle border onto the opposing team’s side.
- No Moving: Players must remain in their positions and are not allowed to cross the middle border.
- End of Game: After ten minutes, the game leader calls time, and the throwing stops.
Winning the Game
- At the end of ten minutes, each team counts the amount of crumpled paper on their side.
- The team with the least amount of paper on their side is the winner.
- The team with the most paper on their side is the losing team.
Safety and Fair Play
- Ensure the room is safe for play, free of obstacles that players could trip over.
- Remind players to be mindful of their throws to avoid hitting others in the face or causing injury.
- Emphasize the importance of fair play and teamwork.
Enjoy the chaotic fun of Newspaper War and may the best team win!
