Overview

Paper Maze is a fun and interactive game where players navigate through a grid laid out on the floor, trying to guess the correct path held by the game host. The game combines strategy, memory, and teamwork, making it perfect for groups of 6 to 12 players aged 10 and up.

Objective

The objective of Paper Maze is for teams to navigate from one side of the grid to the other by guessing the correct path. The first team to successfully reach the end of the maze wins.

Setup

Materials Needed

  • Large sheets of paper or paper tiles to create a grid on the floor.
  • A separate sheet of paper and a pen for the game host to draw the path.

Preparation

  1. Create the Grid: Lay out the large sheets of paper on the floor to form a grid. The size of the grid can vary, but a 5×5 or 6×6 grid is recommended for optimal challenge.
  2. Draw the Path: On a separate sheet of paper, the game host should secretly draw a path through the grid from one side to the other. This path should be known only to the game host.

Rules and Gameplay

Teams

  • Divide the players into teams of 2 to 3 members each.
  • Each team takes turns trying to navigate the maze.

Taking Turns

  1. Starting Point: The first player of the team starts at one edge of the grid.
  2. Guess the Path: The player steps on the first square, trying to guess the correct path.
  3. Correct or Incorrect:
    • If the player steps on a square that is part of the path, they can continue to the next square.
    • If the player steps on a square that is not part of the path, the game host informs them that they are incorrect, and they must start again from the beginning.
  4. Next Player’s Turn: After a player makes an incorrect step, the next player on their team starts from the beginning and tries to remember the correct steps.

Winning the Game

  • The first team to successfully navigate from the starting point to the end of the grid wins the game.

Additional Rules

  • Players are not allowed to mark the grid or leave any indicators.
  • Teams should maintain a distance from the grid when it is not their turn to avoid seeing the correct path by chance.
  • The game host can decide on penalties for teams that break the rules, such as skipping a turn.

Tips for Game Host

  • Make the path moderately challenging but not impossible.
  • Encourage fair play and good sportsmanship among all players.
  • Adjust the grid size and complexity based on the age and skill level of the players.

Enjoy the challenge and have fun navigating the Paper Maze!
