Game Overview

Rock Paper Scissors Race combines the classic game of Rock Paper Scissors with a fun, physical race. Players compete in teams, hopping through a series of hoops while challenging opponents in quick Rock Paper Scissors matches. The first team to get all their players to the other side wins.

Game Setup

Materials Needed

  • Hoops (one for each player)
  • Markers to define the start and end points for each team

Preparation

  1. Set up a series of hoops on the ground, forming a circuit that separates the two teams.
  2. Divide players into two teams. Ensure each team has at least one player, but there is no maximum number of players.
  3. Each team lines up at their respective starting points on opposite sides of the hoop circuit.

Rules and Gameplay

Starting the Game

  1. Teams decide who will go first. This can be done by mutual agreement or by playing a quick round of Rock Paper Scissors.
  2. The first player from each team starts at their respective starting points.

Playing the Game

  1. Hopping Through Hoops: Players hop on one foot through the series of hoops, moving towards the opposite team’s side.
  2. Face-to-Face Challenge: When two players from opposing teams meet face-to-face in the same hoop, they must stop and play a quick round of Rock Paper Scissors.
    • The winner continues hopping forward towards the opposing team’s side.
    • The loser must return to their team’s starting point and tag the next teammate in line to begin hopping through the hoops.
  3. Tagging: Once a player loses a Rock Paper Scissors match and returns to their starting point, they tag the next teammate in line, who then begins hopping through the hoops.
  4. Winning the Race: The game continues until all players from one team successfully reach the opposing team’s side.

Winning the Game

The first team to have all its players reach the opposing team’s side wins the game.

Tips for Success

  • Quick Decisions: Encourage players to make quick decisions in Rock Paper Scissors to keep the game fast-paced.
  • Balance and Agility: Hopping on one foot can be challenging, so practice balance and agility.

Variations

  • Double Hopping: Allow players to hop on both feet instead of one for a slightly easier version.
  • Timed Rounds: Introduce timed rounds where each match of Rock Paper Scissors must be completed within a certain number of seconds.

Safety Considerations

  • Ensure the play area is free of obstacles and hazards.
  • Use soft, flexible hoops to minimize the risk of injury.
  • Supervise younger players to ensure fair play and safety.
