Players take turns throwing bolas (two balls connected by a string) at a ladder-shaped target, trying to wrap the bolas around the rungs to score points.

Objective

The objective of Ladder Golf is to score points by wrapping bolas (two balls connected by a string) around the rungs of a ladder-shaped target. The player or team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Setup

  1. Targets: Two ladder-shaped targets, each with three rungs.
  2. Bolas: Sets of bolas, each consisting of two balls connected by a string. Each player or team should have their own color of bolas.
  3. Players: A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 players can participate. Players should be at least 5 years old.

Basic Rules

  1. Scoring Rungs:
    • Top rung: 3 points
    • Middle rung: 2 points
    • Bottom rung: 1 point
  2. Place the targets 15 feet apart.
  3. Players take turns throwing their bolas at the opposite target, trying to wrap them around the rungs.
  4. Players must stand behind the throwing line (marked 15 feet from the target).
  5. Each player or team throws three bolas per turn.
  6. Points are scored based on where the bolas land after all bolas are thrown.
  7. The first player or team to reach exactly 21 points wins. If a player or team exceeds 21 points, their score for that round is not counted.

Variations

  • Shortened Distance: For younger players, reduce the distance between the targets.
  • Team Play: Teams of two players each, with teammates standing at opposite ends.
  • Double Points: Assign double points to the rungs for a more challenging game.

How to Play

Starting the Game

  1. Set up the two ladder targets 15 feet apart.
  2. Decide the throwing order by a coin toss or mutual agreement.
  3. Each player or team chooses their color of bolas.

Playing the Game

  1. Players take turns throwing their three bolas at the opposite target.
  2. Bolas can be thrown in any manner, as long as the player stands behind the throwing line.
  3. After all bolas are thrown, count the points scored based on where the bolas landed.
  4. Remove the bolas and prepare for the next round.
  5. Continue playing rounds until one player or team reaches exactly 21 points.

Winning the Game

  • The first player or team to reach exactly 21 points wins.
  • If no player or team reaches exactly 21 points after a predetermined number of rounds, the player or team with the highest score wins.

Safety Tips

  • Ensure the playing area is clear of obstacles and safe for throwing.
  • Supervise younger children to ensure they play safely.
  • Use soft, lightweight bolas to prevent injury.
