You get all the chairs in a circle and have the people playing sit on them. Make sure there are no empty chairs. Then pick someone to stand in the middle of the circle. The aim for him/her is to take a seat. Chits are made with certain details for example “Everyone wearing black clothing” The person in the middle reads the chit from the pile of chits and begins to find a seat. The aim for the people sitting is to not let the player in the middle take a seat from them. To stop them from sitting down the players that are sitting down shuffle from chair to chair. Players can change the direction at any time. There should be one less chair than the number of people playing the game so that there will always be one person who does not have a seat and that person can stand in the middle and read the next chit

Items Needed

  • Chairs (one less than the number of players)

Cost Per Person

  • Minimal (only for materials to create chits and chairs if not available)

Game Setup

  1. Arrange the chairs in a circle, ensuring there is one less chair than the number of players.
  2. Have all players sit on the chairs, leaving one person standing in the middle.
  3. Prepare a pile of chits with various conditions.

How to Play

  1. The player standing in the middle (the “Seeker”) picks a chit from the pile and reads it aloud.
  2. The players seated on the chairs must follow the condition on the chit (e.g., “Everyone wearing black clothing” must stand up and find a new chair).
  3. As the players shuffle to new chairs, the Seeker tries to sit in one of the vacated seats.
  4. Players can change direction at any time while shuffling to make it more challenging for the Seeker.
  5. There will always be one person left without a chair, who becomes the new Seeker and picks the next chit.

Rules

  • Players must move to a new chair if the condition on the chit applies to them.
  • The Seeker can only sit in a chair that is momentarily vacated by another player.
  • Players cannot hold or block chairs intentionally to prevent others from sitting.
