Hopscotch

Hopscotch

Physical Outdoor Individual

  • Players: 2 – 8
  • Duration: 10 - 20 min
  • Average cost: $0.5

How to play

Draw the classic numbered court (1 to 10) with chalk. The first player tosses a marker — a flat stone or beanbag — onto square 1, then hops through the court skipping the marker's square: single squares on one foot, side-by-side squares with one foot in each. At the end, turn and hop back, pausing to pick up the marker on the way. Complete the run without stepping on lines or losing balance, then throw for square 2. First player to finish all squares wins.

Around the World

Mark five to nine shooting spots in an arc around the key, from one baseline to the other. Players must sink a shot from each spot in order to travel "around the world." Make it and advance; miss and you choose — stay put and end your turn safely, or "chance it" with a second attempt, where a miss sends you all the way back to the start. First player to complete the full arc (and back, in the long version) wins.

Scatterball

Scatterball

Scatterball is a fun, energetic game where everyone stands in a close circle, one player throws a ball in the air and calls a player's name. Everyone else scatters. The called player catches the ball and yells "Stop!" Everyone must stop moving or hiding. The player with the ball throws it to hit another player. If hit, that player must sit down. In future rounds, sitting players rejoin the game if they catch or grab the ball and hit another player with it.

Stop the Bus
  • 3–12 players
  • 15 - 30 min
  • ~$0.3/person

Stop the Bus

Everyone draws the same columns on their paper: name, place, animal, food, movie — pick five or six categories. A letter is chosen at random and all players race to fill every column with a word starting with that letter. The first player finished shouts "Stop the bus!" and everyone must drop their pens. Score ten points per valid answer, but only five if another player wrote the same word — so "Paris" is safe and worthless, while "Podgorica" is a gamble for glory. Highest total after five letters wins.
