How to play
One player throws the small target ball — the pallino — down the lawn. Teams then take turns rolling their larger bocce balls as close to the pallino as possible, knocking rivals away when useful. When all balls are thrown, the team with the closest ball scores a point for every ball nearer than the opponents' best. First team to 12 points wins. Slow enough for conversation, tactical enough to get competitive — the perfect barbecue game for mixed generations.

Cross Country Spoon
Play the classic card game Spoons with one twist: the spoons aren't in the middle of the group — they're somewhere else entirely. Place them across the room, up a staircase, or (best of all) outside, with obstacles between the cards and the spoons. Play proceeds as normal: pass cards around the circle until someone collects four of a kind, at which point everyone sprints for a spoon. One player comes back empty-handed and is out — remove a spoon and deal again. The farther and messier the route, the better the game.
