Chaos

Chaos

Indoor Individual Outdoor Physical

  • Players: 10 or more
  • Duration: 15 - 30 min
  • Free to play
  • Age: 4+

How to play

Get the youth to make a circle with the chairs facing inwards. There needs to be one less chair than there are people. One person stands in the middle of the circle. The people sitting on chairs then have to make eye contact with someone across the circle (they cannot make eye contact with someone next to them). Once they have made definite eye contact, they must get up and quickly swap seats. The person in the middle must also try to find a seat. Everyone does this all at once creating CHAOS!

What you'll need

  • Chairs (one fewer than players)

Overview

Chaos is an energetic and fun game that involves quick thinking, coordination, and a lot of movement. It’s perfect for large groups and can be played both indoors and outdoors.

Objective

The objective of Chaos is to be quick enough to find a seat when the chaos begins. The person left without a seat remains in the center and the game continues.

Setup

  1. Arrange chairs in a circle with the seats facing inward.
  2. The number of chairs should be one less than the total number of players.
  3. One person starts in the middle of the circle without a chair.

How to Play

  1. Forming the Circle: Players sit on the chairs forming a circle, with one player standing in the middle.
  2. Making Eye Contact: Players sitting in chairs must make eye contact with another player across the circle (not next to them). Once eye contact is made, they signal readiness to swap seats.
  3. Creating Chaos:
    • When eye contact is made, the players must quickly get up and swap seats with each other.
    • The person in the middle must also try to find a seat during this moment of chaos.
    • Everyone moves simultaneously, trying to secure a seat.
  4. Continuing the Game:
    • The player who fails to find a seat remains in the middle.
    • The game continues with the new person in the middle.

Rules

  1. No adjacent swapping: Players can only make eye contact with and swap seats with someone who is not next to them.
  2. Simultaneous Movement: All players involved in a seat swap must move at the same time.
  3. No Holding Chairs: Players cannot hold onto chairs or otherwise block others from sitting down.
  4. Safety First: Ensure the area is safe for quick movements to prevent accidents.

Tips for Success

  • Be Observant: Quickly identify potential players to swap seats with.
  • Be Quick: Swift movements increase your chances of securing a seat.
  • Communicate Clearly: Use clear signals for making eye contact and readiness to swap.

Game Duration

  • The game continues as long as players wish to keep playing. There is no fixed duration.

Cost per Person

  • The game is free to play; the only requirement is having enough chairs.

Ships Wreck

Ships Wreck, Divide the kids into teams of around 10 people. Each team will need a "ship" - this could be a hula hoop or something else of a similar size (small blanket, plank of wood). Each team will start at one end of the playing field and their object is to run to the other end while carrying their ship. When the instructor yells "SHARK", every team needs to immediately drop their ship on the ground and then jump on top/inside of it. The first team with everyone on board of their ship will get a point. Crossing the finish line first could gain the team three points. You can repeat this game as many times as you want.

Amoeba tag
  • 6+ players
  • 25 - 30 min
  • Free

Amoeba tag

Start off the game by choosing 1 person to be 'it' and have a designated tag area for the game to run in, preferably a large open area (so the other youth can't hide behind, or run between small objects to evade). This 'it' person must run around and tag people, and every-time the amoeba tags somebody they must hold hands to become 'part of the amoeba'. Now both of these people are 'it' and must remain connected at all times by holding hands, progressively more and more people will become part of the amoeba. In order to tag the next person, they must form a circle around them by holding hands (like a group hug). If anybody gets caught in the completed amoeba circle they must become part of it. The trick is, the amoeba is allowed to run around as a chain (not a circle) in order to trap people in a corner. The other people are allowed to run through gaps in the chain, but if the amoeba is quick enough at forming a circle again around the player then he/she is caught. The smaller amoebas are faster, but as it gets bigger it requires more teamwork and communication to work as a group to catch another person. Everybody in an amoeba must be holding hands and remain in a chain/circle at ALL TIMES.
