How to play

One improviser sits on a bench (two chairs) as a neutral, patient person. A second enters as a bizarre character of their invention — a conspiracy theorist, a heartbroken opera singer, a pigeon in human form — and their goal is to make the sitter want to leave through sheer character commitment, never physical contact. When the first sitter finds a reason to exit, the strange character stays, becomes the new normal one, and the next volunteer enters even stranger. The escalation across five rounds is the whole show.

What you'll need

Four Corners

1. You'll need to play in a room with four corners, so it can't be circular. 2. Each corner must be labelled with a number, from 1-4. 3. The person who is blindfolded (preferably some type of facilitator) will go into the middle of the room and begin counting to ten. All of the other players must scramble for one of the four corners. If anybody cannot make it to a corner in time, they must be eliminated for the round. 4. When the countdown is done, the facilitator will yell out a number between 1 and 4. Anybody in the corner of that number is eliminated for the round. 5. This pattern goes on until there is only one other person standing. They win!

Broken Telephone with Headphones

Broken Telephone with Headphones is a game where the players with music in their headphones stand in a line facing the back of the player in front of them. The first player in the line has no music and receives a phrase which he has to say to the player in front of him and the player in front of him passes it on to the next player and so on. The last player has to say the phrase that came to him out loud.

Silent Ball
  • 5–30 players
  • 10 - 20 min
  • ~$2/person

Silent Ball

The classroom-taming classic. Players spread out (standing or sitting on desks) and toss a soft ball to each other in total silence. You're out if you talk, laugh, drop a catchable throw, or make a genuinely bad throw — as judged by the referee. Eliminated players sit down but stay in the room, watching for anyone who breaks the silence. Play continues until two silent champions remain. Great for cooling down an over-excited group without losing the fun.
