Games That Run Over an Hour

A short list, because very few games genuinely hold a group for this long without becoming an event rather than a game.

These are the ones built as the main thing: wide games across a site, extended scavenger hunts, tournaments with several rounds. They need planning that the rest of the catalog does not — briefing helpers in advance, marking boundaries, deciding what happens when it rains, and agreeing how it ends if the time runs out before the game does.

Worth being honest about the failure mode. A long game that loses the group in the first twenty minutes is a long twenty minutes for everyone, and the usual cause is a rule nobody understood. Run the explanation past someone else before you run it past the group.

Each entry below includes what usually goes wrong, which for games this length is the most useful part of the page.
